The antenatal screening service provided by UKHSA Birmingham complies fully with the Screening Quality Assurance Service (SQAS) requirements. SQAS provides expert advice on the quality and safety of local screening programmes. SQAS monitors compliance with standards, support services with improving quality and undertake quality assurance activities including visits. SQAS is vital for Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy Screening (IDPS) as it helps ensure tests are accurate, results are acted on promptly, and women receive safe, high-quality care. Effective quality assurance supports the early detection and management of infections such as HIV, hepatitis B, and syphilis, helping to improve outcomes for both mothers and babies. Our quality assurance systems ensures any IDPS anomalies or non-conformances are investigated and raised with midwives in line with the requirements of SQAS.
